Visit Lake City was informed on May 4, 2023 that the Pearl of the Lake has been sold to a company operating in another state. The former owner, Larry Neilson of Lake Pepin Paddleboat, Inc. has issued a statement saying that all deposits and tickets will be refunded by contacting him at (651) 345-5188
The Lake City Chamber and Visit Lake City wish Larry Neilson the best as he moves on to a new chapter in life after his sale of the Pearl of The Lake tour boat.
Mr. Nielson is a legendary Lake City personality and has been an important person both out front and behind the scenes in the development and support of local and regional tourism for many years.
The Pearl has been a very popular attraction in Lake City, and of course it is a blow for the community to lose something so unique. If there is one thing that the Pearl has proved over its time in operation here, it is that there is definitely a demand in Lake City for Lake Pepin tours. Of course, while no one could replace Larry or his love for the or knowledge of the river, we hope that someone eventually steps up and fills the niche.
Until then, there are still plenty of ways for folks to get on the water in Lake City this season. We have businesses offering sailing charters, boat rentals, and guided fishing excursions, as well as kayak and paddle board rentals, numerous public launches, and phenomenal beaches.
